Open infrastructure where every participant keeps control of their own data.

A team at Think-it was working with BMW Group and confronted with a challenge that had no clean solution: sovereign data sharing between organisations. Not just within one legal entity or group, but across company boundaries, with full policy control on both sides. We had to figure out how to enable data exchange without either party losing control of what they shared.

This led us deep into the Eclipse Dataspace Components ecosystem. We became EDC Core Committers at the Eclipse Foundation, ran the first production deployments of the Mobility Data Space, built the logistics emissions data space with leading logistics companies worldwide, helped GDSO, the global data space for the tire industry, bring its biggest manufacturers together to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, and worked across automotive, freight, and media. The infrastructure underneath all of this needed a dedicated, neutral steward.

Kaphera was spun off from Think-it to be exactly that. A new legal entity, mission-locked and steward-owned, whose sole purpose is to maintain and advance open data space infrastructure. Think-it continues to operate as a systems integrator running ahead of the platform. The production track record from that work is the foundation Kaphera builds on.
