Use Cases
Whether you operate a data space, build on one, or run an industrial supply chain, Kaphera serves your layer.
Kaphera serves organisations at every layer of a data space. The case studies below were delivered by our team, before the company was spun off as a dedicated infrastructure steward, with roots at Think-it, the sovereign-data engineering practice that built them.
Data Space Operators
- 150+ live connectors in production
- Multi-tenant onboarding for smaller participants
- Identity and policy rules managed centrally
Organisations that govern and run a data space: provisioning connectors, managing participant onboarding, setting identity rules, and keeping the network live. Kaphera handles the infrastructure so operators focus on the ecosystem, not the platform.
Example case study
Mobility
Mobility Data Space
150+ connectors in production across the Mobility Data Space
Our team operates the Mobility Data Space connector infrastructure, running over 150 active connectors across mobility companies, public institutions, and fleet operators. Multi-tenancy lets smaller participants join at an accessible cost. This is the production environment Kaphera's platform is built on.
Outcome
The largest active EDC deployment in Europe. Forms the operational foundation for Kaphera Cloud.
Data Space Builders
- Six to eight weeks of connector work → days
- One reusable reference implementation
- Runs on AWS, Scaleway, OVHcloud, or bare metal
Platform engineers and solutions architects connecting organisations to data spaces. The cases below show what our team built before Kaphera packaged that work as reusable open infrastructure, so every integrator stops rebuilding the same six to eight weeks of connector work from scratch. Our team's roots are at Think-it, the sovereign-data engineering practice where this work was originally built; the named companies were the client organisations whose data spaces we built.
Example case study
Automotive
BMW Group
Sovereign data exchange across the automotive supply chain
Our team took ownership of BMW Group's data space connector and brought it to production quality: adding usage-policy and sovereignty features, building CI/CD pipelines to deploy and configure it across environments, running design sprints for a seamless UI, and integrating it directly into BMW's existing Data Portal. We built security and compliance in from the start; our engineers became BMW's internal subject-matter experts on data space connectors and provided documentation and training for long-term ownership.
Outcome
BMW became a technical frontrunner in data spaces. Users exchange data with other companies through their familiar environment.
“Partnering with Think-it allowed us to navigate complexity and set up the required technology in a very short time with great results, making BMW a technical frontrunner in data spaces. This has been truly pioneering work.”
Stefan, Product Owner, Catena-X Connector and GAIA-X Lead
Example case study
Logistics and Climate
Amazon, Nestle, Smart Freight Centre
Scope 3 emissions data sharing across global logistics
Our team built a data space using a peer-to-peer approach on Eclipse Dataspace Components, running on Kubernetes on AWS, to enable sovereign exchange of scope 3 emissions data between shippers and suppliers. Logistics competitors could finally share decarbonisation data without losing competitive advantage, with fast onboarding and deployment built in from day one.
Outcome
15x productivity improvement for Amazon — a task completed in 2 hours instead of 30. Proved the feasibility of calculating scope 3 emissions, which can account for up to 80% of an organisation's carbon footprint, across global logistics competitors.
“Having independently verifiable data will help accurate transport decarbonization by enabling the same granular analysis and large scale optimization techniques that have been used successfully by supply chains to optimize cost and speed.”
Assad, Director EU, Amazon Global Transportation
Industrial Manufacturers
- Machine-readable compliance data
- Traceability across company boundaries
- Audit-ready reporting, always current
Manufacturers across automotive, freight, and logistics exchanging data for compliance, supply chain traceability, and sustainability reporting. The regulations are moving — battery passports, scope 3 requirements, Digital Product Passport. Kaphera is the infrastructure that makes compliance data machine-readable and auditable across company boundaries.
Supply chain traceability — in development
Use cases for manufacturers are being developed: supply chain component traceability, product carbon footprint from real supplier data, and Digital Product Passport compliance.
